Melanotan I

Also known as Afamelanotide

Anti-Aging & Skin

10mg vial + 2mL BAC water = 5 units = 250mcg — Amounts listed in the Dosify Me data: 250mcg-1mg — Frequency: daily loading, then 2-3x weekly — Best taken: before sun exposure

Informational only, not medical advice. Consult a licensed healthcare provider before starting or changing any protocol.

Amounts and schedules here are listed from the Dosify Me compound data (sources below). They are not recommendations: Dosify Me does not tell you what dose to take, so follow your prescriber.

Reconstitution

Every vial size below is mixed to the same concentration, 5 mg/mL, so the syringe reads the same number of units for a given dose no matter which vial you bought.

Dose to syringe units

On a standard 100-unit (1 mL) insulin syringe, at the concentration above:

DoseSyringe units
250 mcg5.0 units
500 mcg10.0 units
1 mg20.0 units

Amounts listed in the Dosify Me data: 250–1000 mcg. Frequency: daily during loading, then 2-3x weekly. Timing: before sun exposure.

All vial sizes reconstitute to 5mg/mL (50mcg/unit) so the syringe reads the same regardless of size.

Reading units for Melanotan I

Check one row of the table above: 250 mcg is 0.25 mg; 0.25 mg ÷ 5 mg/mL = 0.05 mL; 0.05 mL × 100 = 5 units.

Side effects

Medication caution

Blood pressure and heart rate effects are widely claimed for Melanotan I but are not documented for its approved equivalent afamelanotide, which is selective for the skin-pigment receptor and whose label lists no such adverse reactions and no interaction studies. Those cardiovascular effects belong to non-selective melanocortin agonists like bremelanotide. Anyone on blood pressure medication (beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers) should still mention it to their prescribing doctor and watch their numbers.

Frequently asked

How many units is 250 mcg of Melanotan I?

At 5 mg/mL (the concentration every vial size mixes to), 250 mcg of Melanotan I is 5.0 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe (0.050 mL).

How many units is 500 mcg of Melanotan I?

At 5 mg/mL (the concentration every vial size mixes to), 500 mcg of Melanotan I is 10.0 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe (0.100 mL).

How many units is 1 mg of Melanotan I?

At 5 mg/mL (the concentration every vial size mixes to), 1 mg of Melanotan I is 20.0 units on a 100-unit insulin syringe (0.200 mL).

How much bacteriostatic water do I add to a 10 mg vial of Melanotan I?

2.00 mL, which gives 5 mg/mL. Other vial sizes use proportionally more or less water so the syringe reads the same.

How often is Melanotan I taken?

Daily during loading, then 2-3x weekly. Before sun exposure Typical cycle: Loading, then 2–3×/week to maintain; pause when tan is reached.
